The Utica Food Pantry will be holding our 3rd annual “What’s For Lunch” giveaway. The giveaways will provide food to families for the weeks of August 22nd and August 29th. Most schools in the area have been providing free lunches all summer for school aged children, however, those lunches stop for the last two weeks of summer vacation. Thanks to donations from Hannaford and the Compassion Coalition, The Utica Food Pantry is able to provide lunches to those in need for the final days before school begins.
The giveaways will take place on Monday, August 22nd and Monday, August 29th from 11am to 1pm at the Utica Food Pantry, 729 Broadway, Utica. The “What’s For Lunch” bags will include enough food for 5 lunches.
The Pantry serves the residents of the City of Utica who meet The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) income eligibility requirement. Typical clients include working families trying to make ends meet, people experiencing a temporary job loss, individuals whose SNAP (food stamps) benefits have been reduced, and senior citizens. Seniors often seek help because most are on a fixed income and are impacted by higher medication and health care costs.
The Utica Food Pantry was founded in 1982 when it incorporated as a 501(c) organization. As a private, nonprofit organization we depend entirely on donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other strategic partners.
